Gah! Way too many bands to check out now.

Thanks a lot for that! I'm not extremely fond of (the) vocals, but the music is great! The music reminds me of a more abstract Social Distortion, which I like a lot.
I'm glad you like them. I really was into the Source Tags and Codes album back when it came out. I remember getting stoned to it out in the middle of the desert with my friends and the girl that I would later marry. It seems like a million years has passed already.
I listened to most of the bands that Noodles suggested (just a few tracks of each) but none of them really fit my vision of what the proper union between Post-Rock and Extreme Metal might be. Most of these bands seem to rely on grainy "white noise" textures, and I sense alot of these guys are simply indulging their own melancholy. I can't fully describe what it is I am waiting to hear, but I suspect it has yet to be created.
Getting back to the abstract nature of lyrics and names, I agree that it is just fine for a band to be cryptic and leave a little up to interpretation, however when there is not even the slightest literal meaning to any of the words used by a band, it begs a few questions.
When I see lyrics by say, Mars Volta for example, and they are completely incompresensible in any context, I have to wonder if it isn't done as a sort of defensive measure. In other words, many bands have strong stances about death, god, ect. but if one was to write something utterly crpytic than they never have to answer for what they say. They can always say, "Well we leave it up to the listener to decide the meaning." To me that seems cowardly. It is taking the easy way out of writing, because just about ANYONE can write about nothing. If you don't take a stand for anything, then you stand for nothing. I know it is easy to say, "Well big deal, who cares?" but I think it sets a dangerous precedent. If we tolerate meaninglessness in our art and music then it becomes easier to tolerate it in our own lives.
And is it me, or does alot of this stuff sound like The Cure with no vocals? I'm no Cure expert but alot of these guys like 65DoS, MMA, and AtPA remind me of them.
