Pffft! Barely.

Oh yeah?

Cut this shit, spammer!

On topic: "Judas At The Opera" would have made this album a 95/100!

Agreed. That would have added a lot to the album. But also would have made my buying of the EP a waste of money.

You think? The other songs on that EP are excellent!

But if 2 of the 5, including the best, songs were on the album then it would have been better just to stick with the mp3s rather than shelling out the cash. IMO. There is a lot of stuff i want to buy.

Well, I think $5.99 would have been worth hearing those two tracks earlier, plus the other two and the piano version of "Superheroes." It still would have been worth it to me. Three unreleased songs is still a lot more than most bands give us. :)

I don't think he does the rough, powerful rock voice very well. I think his best performance was on Avantasia (one of my favorites), and it doesn't look like anything is going to challenge that..

But a good album at any rate.

I like Trinidad. It's a very catchy fun song. The song like the least is Fucking with Fire.

I agree.. it's got a neat chorus, evokes images of some nice beaches and blue water and maybe a pina colada. And Fucking with Fire, that's simply bad cock rock.

Bah! To whom? This album will sell no more than any other album.

Hmmm.... I'm not so sure that any musician purely interested in sales would do anything even remotely close to metal. I could be wrong, but I can't imagine these guys are making anything more than a comfortable living off their music.

'dems fightin' words! Let's take this outside....

Call me stuck in the past, but I really think Edguy hit their peak with VGO and Theater of Salvation. They've released very good/excellent material since, but they just seem better versed for that type of music (VGO & ToS) than the more starightforward melodic metal/rock albums we've heard since. Still, I enjoy this album, but I do hope they haven't abondoned their VGO/ToS sound forever.

Yeah you can also add Mandrake to that what I see is the exact same thing we are seeing with Stratovarius and that is abandoning their traditional sound for something else and that's where you start losing some of your core fanbase.

But I can't really give my opinion for the album until I hear it but from what some of you are saying on here it sounds a lot like what Strato did with their new S/T album.

Well, I just noticed a subtitle of "(Hair Force One)"—hahaha—after "Fucking With Fire" so I'm assuming cock rock was the point, still a great song, though.

I doubt that too Chris. You managed to score yet another Edguy album in the 90's. You're going for a record.

Ok on a more serious note, i find this album to have a few stinkers that ruins the good impression of some songs. For me there are great Edguy songs on every album, but it's more like 2-3 great and 6-7 average to just worse. The only exception is of course VGO. This album doesn't stray much from the above formula. The album opens great with Sacrifice, which is a good hard rock/melodic heavy metal combo with a very infectious chorus. The other songs which have slowly been growing on me are Wasted Time and Catch Of The Century. Good catchy melodies always have an impact on me, i'm guilty of that. Save Me sounds as bad as 99% of Edguy ballads and i think that The Asylum is a blatant copy of Piper Never Dies.

I really don't see the similarities between The Asylum and the Piper Never Dies. I mean the Piper Never Dies is a godly song. Gave me goosebumps the first 100 times a listened to it and still does sometimes. The Asylum is no where near the absolute amazingness of TPND. Still a good song though.

It's probably the rhythm, that Dio-esque stomp that each song has. I agree, though, I don't hear any similarities really, just that like slight similarity in stucture, but that's a stretch.

Chris mentioned a Bon Jovi similarity in "Save Me," I don't hear that, but I totally hear Bon Jovi's "Bad Medicine" in "Wasted Time."

It probably is only me that hears it, but the overall rhythm is exactly the same. Then it's the similarities in the verse and when Toby sings in the chorus "in a world with a broken dance" it's just like he is singing "the piper never dies" with the exact melody.
Maybe if I was more musically competent I could explain it more accurately, but the fact remains that I hear strong resemblence. Even if it's not so, my opinion on this album is lower as it is and I don't like The Asylum anyway.

OH yeah and Trinidad sucks...lalala...

I hear Bad Medicine in Wasted Time, but only a couple of notes at the start.

I downloaded this the other day and didn't like it. To be fair I've never really liked them but they do seem to be getting worse. It's odd for a band to get more childish and simplistic as time goes on.
I didn't mind the first track though.

Oh, and Radagast, nice to see a Preacher fan on the boards. :D

I wouldn't go as far as saying they have pulled a Strato. I mean, they still have some noticeable metal moments and haven't completely given up on speed. The new Strato sound = horrible, the new Edguy sound = ok.

I don't get it, what is so different about the Strato sound. Sure they limited the use of keyboards and they've gone down on speed a bit, but it still sounds as Stratovarius to me. Now, Edguy added some very distinctive 80's hard rock elements which at least made things more varied if not that good.

I hated Strato ballads (always), and they are more present on this album. The songs are not catchy or fast, Kotipelto's voice disappeared, and the over all song structure is boring and bland. Jens needs more presence, double bass needs to be present, and bring back some catchy speedy melodies. GRRRRR!!! New Strato = disappointment of my life.

Yeah Stratovarius kept their sound, they just didn't do as much with it as they used to.

Edit: There's only two ballads on the new album (Strato).

Maybe they just all seem like ballads b/c of the tempo. Joking

Great album, not as good as Hellfire Club but a 80/100 from me. But I do understand why some of you don't like it...there's several songs on this album that could have been written by not-so-metal bands (Save Me, Trinidad, Superheroes...) and even though I prefer the more powermetal style on VGO and Theater of Salvation I think Edguy did a great job with this new formula. I like Trinidad (one of my friends love it :P) and I loved Lavatory Love Machine...the only "comedy" song from Edguy i don't like is the infamous Life and Times of a Bonus Track ;)

I don't see what's surprising about liking Turbo? This album is about good songwriting, and good consistency all the way through(unlike Screaming foe Vengeance or Defenders of the Faith),imo!
