...the first 5 songs on the new In Flames album.

I like them. Especailly "Take This Life" and "Dead End". Too bad the rest of the album isn't nearly as good as these songs.

I heard Take This Life and I must say, it does sound like a step up from what was on Soundtrack To Your Escape. I'll check out the album when it's released.

I think the album comes to a dead stop at "Come Clarity" but picks right back up on the next song. I can't see why you'd like the first five tracks and not the rest. I think it's a great album.

Maybe I just need to give the rest of it more a chance.

Possibly. I really like the last track, kind of weird and trippy. I was actually humming a melody to it the other day, I may try and lay down some lyrics to it. :D

Having not listened to it, I'm going to take a wild stab, so run with me here. Nu Metal is dead, so instead of attaching themselves further to its rotten carcass, they have started ripping off the new trendy American bands that took all their ideas from old-style In Flames (and company) in the first place. Am I close?

Yes, and because metalcore sounds kinda like melodeath, everyone's championing it as a stellar return to form and In Flames's best album in years.

Incorrect. It's not metalcore. There is a difference in metalcore and melodic death metal, and it is their best album in years. They never went nu-metal so Rad's comment is irrelevant.
