Hmmm... Edguy reached their peak with Vainglory Opera and Theater of Salvation, took a nosedive with Mandrake, got up and dusted themselves off with Hellfire Club and then stumbled over their shoelaces with this release. It's not without it's bright spots (Sacrifice, Return To The Tribe, Save Me, Trinidad) though.
If this was released by another band I'd probably like the album better as it wouldn't remind me of what Edguy used to be.

Edguy is little more than a hell of a lot of fun. Great band.

I'll check this one out soon enough.

Glad to see you could add so much to the discussion.

That's the way I feel about it too.Overall the album is uninspiring, boring, bland and devoded of any catchy songs IMHO.

Deviod of any catchy songs? Well I can understand why some people don't like it but I wasn't expecting that one.

If you look at what exactly MetalStorm quoted you'll understand that he was talking about the new Strato album.

Yes that's what I'm talking about not the new Edguy album I haven't even heard it yet so I'm not going to say nothing about it until I get it.

This album is so goddamn generic, and absolutely predictable from start to finish. This 'new formula' isn't fresh in any way, and judging by their back catalogue and their overall talent, I'd say this album is borderline insulting.

60/100

Insulting to whom? They don't owe us fans anything! This album isn't in any way whatsoever predictable. Predictable is them doing another standard power metal album, which is all they've ever done. This anything but predictable, it's just different.

Well, for startets, insulting to me. As in "You gave me Theater of Salvation, and now you want me to listen to this steaming pile?!" And predictable, as in, it was so easy to tell which direction they were going in when they released Hellfire Club. While I'm not sure if anyone else saw this album coming, I am not surprised in the least.

Hmmm.... I'm not so sure that any musician purely interested in sales would do anything even remotely close to metal. I could be wrong, but I can't imagine these guys are making anything more than a comfortable living off their music.

'dems fightin' words! Let's take this outside....

Call me stuck in the past, but I really think Edguy hit their peak with VGO and Theater of Salvation. They've released very good/excellent material since, but they just seem better versed for that type of music (VGO & ToS) than the more starightforward melodic metal/rock albums we've heard since. Still, I enjoy this album, but I do hope they haven't abondoned their VGO/ToS sound forever.

That's where I'm at with Edguy too. I still listen to both of those albums on a regular basis, and thought that if they kept this up, they'd definitely be my favorite metal band right alongside LH. Hell, after I heard Avantasia, I figured Tobias was just going to explode onto the scene with the greatest Edguy album ever.

Enter Mandrake

You just can't help yourself, can you? For fuck's sake, people like different things to you. Get over it.

Here's a newsflash, stub, I know this will shock you to your very core - I happen to listen to both Edguy and old Black Sabbath (what, is something wrong with newer Sab?). Both of them. At differnet times. And lots of other stuff too. Crazy, eh?
