Yep, you gotta make some choices, find some bands you like, ignore the rest. Mediocrity will ruin a genre once the mainstream gets it's stranglehold on it.

Whosit for you? I've got Darkane, The Forsaken, and Dark Tranquility in my melodeath bag, plus a dose of old In Flames. Oh, and Arsis. Arsis are good.

I don't know if I'd say this is really that close to the last two. This album has a much different feel to it, and the songs don't strike me as being interchangeable with either Damage Done or Haven.

I do trust DT will progress enough with the next one though, they are one band I don't have to worry about in that respect.

Dark Tranquillity are probably my favorite. But I've got Darkane, The Haunted, Soilwork, In Flames and some other bands like Into Eternity that I'm not sure people would classify as melo-death or not. Cataract are fucking amazing, too, but I think they're more metalcore. Have you heard them?

CATARACT - NOTHING'S LEFT

Right, the albums aren't clones of each other, but they are similar in style and vibe just like The Gallery was like Mind's I, and Of Chaos And Eternal Light was like Skydancer.

I just think it's time for a change, or, rather, I would personally like to hear them change it up a bit.

Yeah. I think what it comes down to is if their next album is exactly like Character I'll be disappointed.

Into Eternity is a good pick, I never got around to hearing Buried in Oblivion though. I really enjoyed Dead or Dreaming, so I guess I should check out their newer one.

Definitely a good album. I'm still looking for their self-titled debut.

EDIT: Nice. It appears their old label, DVS Records, is still selling it! I've always just looked on eBay. Here are some samples, very demo-ish:

SORROW
HOLDING ONTO EMPTINESS

I wouldn't mind hearing another Character. I am a "don't fix it if it ain't broken" type of listener.

So am I, as seen by my love of Bolt Thrower and Amon Amarth.

This CD kicks much ass! But like I said in my end of year thingy, they need to change it up on the next album. Haven, Damage Done and this one are all in the same realm, they run the risk of it getting old if they don't mix it up.

I'm all for another Projector, what about you?

In my humble opinion, Haven as NOTHING to do with Damage Done. Just listen to the synths, the voice... nothing to do withe ones on DD...

I think Character is a fuckin excelent "mix" between all their albums.

This band never disapoints, they always make great albums keeping it true, never turning to "boredom" at all!

I think a Projector kind of album would be very much welcomed, maybe turning it a bit progressive like Into Eternity and filling it with great synthz and clean/harsh vocals like only Stanne knows how to do it

I love Arsis, I also think Soilwork's first 3 albums are pretty sweet. Also Darkane's guitarist's side project Non-Human Level is also quite awesome; I think I like it more than any of Darkane's albums.
