For me,Obituary wins!Although i consider the first 4 Morbid Angel classics(and even FormulasFTTF comes closer),and i really like David Vincent's growls,Pete Sandoval's inhuman drumming and Trey Azagthoth alien guitar solos,nothing can compare with the ripping bloodthirst feeling i get when listening to Slowly We Rot!Unmatched brutality!John"the voice of terror" Tardy is the greatest "singer" ever(Freddie Mercury has no choice but accept the 2nd best position)!The sound those guys manage to get is so unique;sounds a bit like old Black Sabbath mixed with old Celtic Frost.No other band sounds like them!One of my top 10 bands ever!

What about you guys?

Morbid Angel, better musicians and composers...

I never could understand why so many people liked a shitty band like Obituary.... very boring and petty much everything they did and I was infortunate to have to listen to sounds the same...

DEATH slays them both though...

Lessee here... using the absolutely flawless 'compare albums' tactic, I will evaluate these two bands.

Morbid Angel- Altars of Madness
A total classic. Ripping, shredding, evil. EEEEEEEEVIL. It's wonderful. So influential... damn.
Obituary - Slowly We Rot
BRUTAL! Death! Die! Evil. It's wonderful.

Verdict: Morbid Angel.

Morbid Angel - Blessed Are The Sick
Weak production, wonderful songs. Great riffs and speed.
Obituary - Cause of Death
PERFECT.

Verdict: Obituary.

Morbid Angel - Covenant
Shit, minus God of Emptiness and Rapture. Maybe Sworn to the Black, but that's pushing it. Vincent's vocals are weak.
Obituary - The End Complete
Crushing riffs, great production, great vox.

Verdict: Obituary.

Morbid Angel - Domination.
Shit on a roasted-stick.
Obituary - World Demise.
Good, not great.

Verdict: Obituary.

Morbid Angel - Formulas Fatal to the Flesh
Decent, but way too many Pantera riffs, and the guitar tone was weak as crap.
Obituary - Back from the Dead

Morbid Angel - Gateways to Annihilation/Heretic
CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP. I give this five Craps out of a possible two.

Not as bad as Gateways or Heretic.

Slowly We Rot and Cause of Death are imo masterpieces,and the End Complete is pretty good;the rest,i can do without(although i never heard World Demise)!

I think,if you didn't like those albums,the reason is the following:you didn't find nothing musically interesting on them;but what about the feeling of this music?
I agree Death are much more interesting musically,i f you want to analyse music;but,imo,that's more some kind of cerebral music(i ain't talking abut the early Death),which is pretty good;Obituary,although limitated musically,have that insane feeling,that you obviously didn't get.Like someone can't really apreciate Black Sabbath's Master of Reality(or Venom's Black Metal) if he doesn't get the feeling.Even Black Sabbath can be attacked for beeing musically limitated,but obviously those who attack them should stop their Dream Theater debauchery.

I like Dream Theater (#1 favorite band, ALRIGHT! Go Team!) AND Black Sabbath. :?

Anyways, it's Obituary for me. I still love me some Morbid Angel from time to time, but Obituary is just... better.

And like T.I.E, I'd say that Death is better than them both.

I know you like DT;that's ok for me,if you don't like them exclusivly.I can take some DT from time to time,but not too often.

And since you're a DT fan,i guess your favorite Death album is not Leprosy or Scream Bloody Gore,am i wrong?

No, you're right. My favorite Death album is either Symbolic or Human.

Morbid Angel. This has nothing to do with who's better musicians or who's put out better albums, I just like their sound better than Obituary.

Morbid Angel. Obituary is just run of the mill go-nowhere crap. At least, that's all I can remember from rummaging through their meandering discography. Maybe I'll give them another listen on account of all yous.

Man,you just gotta try Slowly We Rot;every time i hear this album,i feel like i mutate into a beast,and i'm hungry for blood,and wanna rip someone's guts off!Death is very good technical death metal,but it never gets bestial like this...no band gets that bestial!!!!

I like Obituary, but I like Morbid Angel more.

Morbid Angel. Obituary rules, but let's fucking face it... Morbid Angel rules MORE. I can't say enough about how great Cause of Death is, but I'd pick both of Morbid Angel's most hated albums over it.

And Death is good, but not the end all band. I rank Morbid Angel FAR higher on my list. Same goes for Obituary.

Morbid Angel definitely. Besides they have one of my fav vocalist, guitarist and drummer in David Vincent, Trey and Pete. Obituary are good too. Pretty unique band and interesting music.
