as some of you might know, I'm not really fond of female fronted metal bands... there are exceptions (Lacuna Coil or Lullacry or Holy Moses are not bad) but mostly, I think women don't fit so well in metal...

but some women are über talented, here's my list :
- Billie Holiday
- Kate Bush
- Ani DiFranco
- Fiona Apple
- Joni Mitchell
- Nina Persson (from The Cardigans/A Camp)
- Minnie Ripperton
- Janis Joplin
- Lisa Gerrard (from Dead Can Dance)
EDIT
- Björk
- Emilie Simon

but, overall, I think arts in general, and music in particular, are a male's thing... what do you think ?

and tell me your favorite female artists too !

Just because I generally don't like songs performed/fronted by women (Nigthwish, Epica and Arch Enemy are like the only three) doesn't mean they have no place in Metal or music. That would be a crazy thing to say.

well metal is a little different to me because i can't stand 80% of the metal bands with women in them. exceptions are lacuna coil and nightwish and within temptation, those three have a few songs i like.

i don't care!.. women sounds nice in black meal, except for those gothic/opera kind of vox - go burn in hell, bitch! doens't matter if it's clean ala Alcest or as the howling woman in Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult, which sing in the same style as Abbath, just more hatefull and cold. :P

Alcest is cool indeed... don't know Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult but from what you're telling me I don't really feel like trying it... :?

You have exposed me for owning chick music! Damn you!

Gwen Stefani
Stevie Nicks
Sarah McLaughlin
Chantel Kreviachuk
Tori Amos
Madonna
Tina Turner
Meg White

(kidding about the last one).

All have made good music IMO. I mean, this would be easy to prove by adding up the number of CDs that have female artists involved. Males would of course win, but it's no reason to say art is a 'male thing'.

She has written some good songs. Meg White can barely whack the simplest drum set in rock.

I just put her up there as an example of a successful female artist (and I like a couple of her songs). The rest I like and own.
