Of course i have slected HIT, and why not. Nothing wrong with women in metal and i dont understand why there are some who dont want women in metal music. Sure if you dont like a woman's vocals, thats just taste, but hating women being involved in metal is wrong.

As vocalists, their voices are so passionate and beautiful. You know who i'm talking about, bands such as Nightwish, Epica, Within Temptation, Dark Moor (back with E. Martin), Leaves' Eyes, Visions Of Atlantis, Lacuna Coil, After Forever, etc

And then there are the woman who "play" in the band. Look at Kitte, all women band. Me personally, i dont like that genre, but they are a decent band.
There are/were some great women of metal. Lead Singer of Sinergy, Kimberly Goss, Keyboardist for Entwine, Ritta Heikkonen, and lets not forget bass player Rayna Foss-Rose.

For me, women in metal ROCK

Everyone knows all metal chicks are either groupies or fat, or both, but because of political correctness I'll vote hit.

Silly me for declaring an art major, then. And having the gall to play the violin for eight years.

Women certainly have their place in music and metal. I'm a fan of Lacuna Coil, The Gathering, Within Temptation, Arch Enemy, Astarte (all female black metal band), Draconian...the list goes on.

Zad...I hate you.

I do my best. And I agree with Stefan, men for the brainy stuff, women for washing the floor and having kids.

Bolt Thrower Current line-up :

Karl Willetts - Vocals
Jo-Anne Bench - Bass
Martin Kearns - Drums
Barry Thompson - Guitar
Gavin Ward - Guitar

1 woman, 4 men... majority wins again

plus Bolt Thrower sucks (I said My Dying Bride was the most boring band I've ever heard but I forgot about BT, they do win the title !)

What's with the absolutes?

from a random web page http://samvak.tripod.com/sexgender.html

"Beliefs that men are intrinsically better at this or that have repeatedly led to discrimination and prejudice, and then they've been proved to be nonsense. Women were thought not to be world-class musicians. But when American symphony orchestras introduced blind auditions in the 1970's - the musician plays behind a screen so that his or her gender is invisible to those listening - the number of women offered jobs in professional orchestras increased."

ok ok
so why doesn't that show in popular music (that includes metal too) ?
i'm just curious actually for I had this argument with my GFriend the other day...

Man Bolt Thrower owns your hippie ass!
Even if they are kind of repetitive they play the most head-banging death metal ever!

With things like orchestras, these are just musical 'jobs' without the songwriting, dues paying, self promotion, management etc.. so that should be a better indication of any gender bias in pure musical ability (which there is probably none). Succeeding in popular music is a whole other ball of wax, however.

anyways here's some I can think of for metal

1. more men than women actually like metal. I wonder what the ratio of fans to musicians is for each gender?
2. some of the instruments take some physical strength (which not all women possess enough of)
3. there are some motivations that only apply to males ('getting chicks')

1. That's true, and I can't really say why. Obviously I'm not the person to ask. As for the ratio, I would imagine it would be about equal, if we're counting high school kids with garage bands as musicians.
2. Mainly true for drums. Men have an advantage on stringed instruments as well, as they tend to have bigger hands than women.
3. Certainly. However, there's the flip side to that as well. I'm sure I have motivations that men wouldn't share.

98% of metal chicks are fat/ugly and don't even like metal.
