What is the point of reviewing a twenty four year old album? Nay, a twenty four year old EP? Because this is the only official live release of a plugged in Angra supporting their classic album Holy Land as well as having Andre Matos on vocals. Looking at the tracklist this has very little surprises. Well, maybe the fact they bust out the ten minute plus epic Carolina IV. This has been played since this tour took place way back in yesteryear, but only sporadically. Kinda like how Iced Earth got all excited because they got a new click or whatever of the keyboards in Dante's Inferno in 2011, and then played it all over the Dystopia tour, the first time since Alive In Athens was recorded... and then only a handful of times since. The other tracks are Nothing To Say, Carry On, Z.I.T.O. (still don't know what this means, it's been a well kept secret all these years) and two intro tracks, Crossing and Unfinished Allegro. Nothing To Say and Carry On have been concert staples for both Andre and Angra since recording them, and both parties played each song at every show after the much publicized split between Andre and the band. But here, they are new to both listener and musician, and there's a sense of excitement in playing these new songs for the first tour. Most importantly, Andre Matos shows what a terrific frontman he was. Charismatic and in control of his faculties, his voice soars. Not only that, but Andre addresses the Parisian crowd in their native tongue quite fluently. If this was filmed in some shitty little club like it probably was (it was the mid nineties after all), I can't tell because the band sounds like they're playing to a sold out crowd at Wacken.

I might be biased on my glowing adulation for this little live EP. This and the Freedom Call EP were actually my first two releases I heard by Angra. If you're a die hard fan of the band or even Andre and have tons of other live shows that have these songs in their setlist, this EP will probably seem redundant. But if somehow you're new to the band either through Andre's guest vocal work or Kiko's involvement in Megadave, then give this a whirl before you get sick of the songs.
