Yet another power metal band from ... yes you've guess right : Italy. Actually they're more symphonic speed metal but one must admit that the bridge between power, true and speed metal is very small... at least I think so. So an Italian band, and guess what ? They have all the stereotypes that usually comes with Italian bands : weak production & barely understandable singer but neverending imagination for song writing and emotion packed !

The first bands that pops in my mind when I listen to the CD is : Secret Sphere & Sigma... two good Italian true/power metal bands and so is Morgana. The music is epic to the bones, and very melodic. The riffs are fast and efficient and they are successfully coupled with strong symphonic arrangements (done with keyboards). Their effect is too synthetic though, too bad, but again it's a production thing. About production, what the hell does the singer vocals do in the back ? who's in charge of the mix... a deaf guy ? ... that's really hurting the band cause the music is really nice and again italian very weak production is taking away chances that the band have to get some attention.

The overall balance is fairly good... some things need to be worked a bit, the keyboard sound mainly and maybe also the vocals that are barely understandable and need to be stronger maybe to match the aggressivity deployed by strong and fast guitar riffs !

The epic power that this band holds is tremendous, with a real production (you guys should come in Switzerland, they've got very good producers and it's not far from Italy !) the band could really make a strong impression cause the songs are pretty good. With influences like Helloween or Stratovarius , the band have what it takes to get popular... but even though I said it three times already, it will be difficult with such a poor production. The most impressive thing is the marriage of guitars riffs with the keyboards arrangements (keyboards are omnipresent in Morgana just like in Secret Sphere). The songs are almost all fast, except the album title name, Angel, which is a nice ballad and also the cool cover Road To Nowhere (Ozzy). Let's Free The Essence is a mid-tempo with speed variation and a pretty cool song that perfectly demonstrate the production problem. The first and the last tracks are keyboards intro and outro, and let's face it they're not very good.

The artcover is very nice but the booklet is really a catastrophe... first it's barely readable due to the color choice on the fonts... too bad cause the singer is difficult enough to understand to try to without being able to read the lyrics. Then like it's not enough, songs are missing in the booklet, but you can find lyrics for a song that is not on the album (Fly In The Sky) ?!?? Maybe I should stop drinking PEPSI MAX when it's late... but I don't thinks it's me this time :)... let's just hope the booklet we've receive is not a final version. Anyway these are details cause the real interest is the music, but packaging have it's importance as well (for some people more than others).

In the end this debut album is mainly for die-hard fans of Italian power metal, if you like Rhapsody, Labyrinth, but mostly Secret Sphere or Sigma, then this one is for you. For the others I suggest you check it out first, cause I know that some people don't tolerate medium produciton and it's REALLY understandable nowadays. As far as I'm concerned, Morgana are a cool band, like many of their category in Italy, they have this magic touch that makes the music deep and emotional and that, is what I like in bands like Morgana. A band with potential but wasted by its production
