...And Oceans is a name associates with risk and innovation. Their previous work, The Symmetry Of I - The Circle of O (their last record for Season Of Mist) was already innovative and their new record, this time with Century Media, confirms this impression.

A kind of crossover or melt-pot between typical death parts (vocals), symphonic black metal keyboards, electro parts, thrashy guitars and the overall is quite fast. Recorded at the now famous Abyss Studio (Destruction, Dimmu Borgir, Children Of Bodom, Hypocrisy, etc) the group pieced together an album full of profound ideas that is bound to explode our metal heads. Production? Excellent!

Song-writing? Sometimes a little bit to "draft", but always very interesting (Esprit de Corps or Odious & Devious, two electro-futuristic-death metal songs). Actually, the electro elements of ...And Oceans' new record is what I like most.

Somehow this A.M.G.O.D. (Allotropic/Metamorphic - Genesis Of Dimorphism) opens a new age for death/thrash/black metal. This new material takes the listener straight into the future and I can guarantee you have never heard such a thing before. Who said cyber death/black metal ? Certainly one of the most important albums coming out from the death/black metal scene. The door is wide open and I am sure many other bands will enter in this new dimension created by ...And Oceans.

Now I don't know if metal aficionados are ready for such a jump. Masterpiece? In terms of risk: definitively. Mixing Hypocrisy, Dark Tranquility, Paradise Lost and Dimmu Borgir in one is not an easy thing. In terms of quality ... you will be the one to decide.
