I have to agree that the Coens are rather overrated. I like Fargo, The Big Lebowski and O Brother Where Art Thou? (in fact, that last one is one of my very favorite movies), but everything else I've seen from them falls flat. Burn After Reading wasn't as funny as it should've been, and as much as I like The Big Lebowski, it doesn't deserve to be as popular as it is. Haven't seen True Grit yet, though. I'm willing to give it a chance.

Oh Brother is actually one of my favourite films as well. It's one of those films I never get tired of watching.

and +1 on No country for old man. It showed everyone that they can do serious films too. Even though I was a bit disappointed by True Grit it was still a good movie.

admittedly, i only saw the 3 movies i mentioned (lebowski, burn after reading, true grit).

but true grit, tell me, if any other guy(s) made it, would it get half the hype? i know how speculative this is, but COME ON. it's, in my opinion, a completely forgettable movie. if it had won the oscar, would it have been fair?

Well, "No Country For Old Men" won the Oscar against "There Will Be Blood" and yet "Fargo" lost to "The English Patient". I disagree with both cases, one for and one against the Coens. My point is that Oscars are a popularity contest, and make as many bad calls as good ones. I don't care what the academy thinks.

...just kidding. As happy as I am when a movie I like wins an Oscar, I couldn't care less in the end. I mean, last year my favorite movie was Moon and it didn't even get a nod.

The academy lost what little credibility it had in the recent years. It's just about the red carpet. No one will remember the borefest King's Speech in two years, everyone will remember Inception. That's what matters.

it definably wasn't bad or no skyline. pretty good action with decent plot. Was a military heavy movie but still kept me entertained/

I have suffered in silence for years about my inability to make it through THE GREATEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME, but now I feel I'm in safe company.

I only made it halfway through the Big Lebowski before going "Meh" and turning it off.
