Same! :D the only thing that might top it is the new Strapping or the new Zero Hour as far as I know.

I doubt either of those will top it, but they'll definitely be in my top 15. It's going to be a great year for metal!

Yea

is it normal that the "never goodbye..." part of triumph makes my face go numb?

Finally listened to this. Very interesting. Some parts that are plain great, other I get the feeling are just weird for the sake of weird. But that's on the basis of a single listen.

Vampolka and the country breakdown on Triumph maybe?... I dunno... I didn't really find anything that weird on the album either.

Of course you listen to John Zorn and Mike Patton!

"Vampolka" and that country breakdown are definitely weird, but I don't ever think Devin is intentionally weird. I think he just let's it flow and if that's what comes out, that's what comes out. That's why you'll be listening to one of his nice, soft lullabies and he's all of a sudden go "fuck off." Hahaha. It's weird, but I don't think he ever sits there trying to figure out how to put this weird part in a song. That just doesn't suit him, I don't think.

Yeah I guess I'm just not avant-garde enough.

For those that haven't heard anything from the album yet:

GAIA

It's such a badass tune!

Well, I finally had a chance to pick this up, and this is my first album of Devin's. It's not half bad, actually. I really like the songs Let It Roll, Triumph, Gaia, Pixillate, and A Simple Lullaby. He certainly has a unique sound in the metal world.

Devin is unquestionably a very talented musician, but some of his lyrics are umm a little strange to say the least like on Babysong and Canada, from a previous album too name a couple. Oh well, maybe I just dont' get him.

Perhaps a little to proggy for my tastes, but I gave it a 75.

Listening to this now, it is pretty good. I get a DT album every so often, I'm sure I'll get this.

This album soured a lot more with age than I expected it too. Now I think its an 80 or 85 rather than a 99... far below Ocean Machine/Terria/Infinity/Physicist

I think it's like all of his albums, the enjoyment level fluctuates because it's more like relative emotions set to music. If I'm in a somber mood I'm not going to enjoy the Infinity album as much, you know? It's too chaotic.

I dunno, once I got used to Terria and Ocean Machine I've never thought they were at all flawed, but I think Synchestra seems to drag on (at the same time I can't think of any songs that I would cut out)

I don't think any of his albums are flawed, I just think the way he writes makes it impossible to enjoy an album of his at any given time, on any given day. His emotions dictate his music immensely, I mean, he tackles certain aspects of certain emotions on every album and I think it translates well, but if I'm not in a contemplative mood, for instance, I may not enjoy Synchestra as much. But when I'm sitting down, staring off into space, just thinking, then Synchestra is going to hit home. You know?

It's not a flaw, it's perfection.

My rating for this goes to 75... it drags far too much.
