This album isn't really rock n' black by the way. I'm a huge fan of that genre and I can give a lot of recommedations if anyone wants, just don't get this album. It's a money trap for emo kids of the US.

I just bought this a few minutes ago and am now listening.

I must say, I like this! It is the same style they've been doing since Rebel Extravaganza. Yes it's a bit more stripped down, and yes Frost has been curbed a bit. I really dig the somewhat drony sound. The riffs are quite unique. K.I.N.G. is a pretty lame song, and I can see how that video would turn people away from it. The rest of it doesn't sound like K.I.N.G. though. The rest sounds more, mature. This is Volcano part 2, but with even more toying with the sound. The clean vocal parts are a rather shocking at first, but they do lend a strange atmosphere to the album. Along with the tasteful Keyboard work it adds a whole new dimension to the music.

If you like Volcano, go ahead and get this. If you're still waiting for Dark Medieval Times part 2, well that memo came a few years ago. It's a very well done album, and isn't "commercial" in the least. It's just different, and I for one am glad to see Satyr continually stepping out of the box.

So if they are signed to Roadrunner, how come my copy is from Century Media/Kaleidoscope and features the Vinyl bonus track?

I wonder how long it will take for RR to re-release this.

I'd heard very mixed opinions of this album at a more black-metaled forum I frequent and considering you are willing to go on board with this I figure it can't be that bad. I'll probably check it out sometime.

Posting just to remind you that a score of 60 means "fair" and "try before buying", not terrible or even bad. The album is meh, IMO, but I definiteley exhort you to give it a try if you enjoyed Volcano (as said in the review).

Also I would like to say that the only thing in comon with Rebel Extravaganza is the modern sound; the song writting is very VERY different.

At least half of the songs are pretty good. So this makes a good reasonable album for me.

I love to drive while listening to the first 4/5 songs

Like I said, I find it to be a pretty kick-ass album. I really dig the new sound they have forged for themselves. Loud, booming guitar riffs, with very abstract strumming. Frost shines here as always, it's not a blast-beat mania, but he is still one of the most creative guys behind the kit out there. If you like what they have been doing recently, I see no reason why you wouldn't like Now, Diabolical. I think if Satyr would have roughed up the production a bit, the album would have been better received. The guitar tone on this album is a little strange sounding.

If you do check it out, make sure to get the Bonus Track Storm(of the Destroyer), it sounds like something from the old days. Snorre from Thorns plays guitar on that song.

I will. Thanks for expounding on the topic more. At times I really enjoy their newer sound, sometimes not.

Jesus fuck... can't you kiddies behave for a while... next person to make a stupid argument in this thread gets a ban. I don't care who was first.

Skaldr: lighten up, it was just a joke... We know you know your BM shit.
Husker:
The rest: can we concentrate a bit on the album discussion? thank you.

I guess if you are into their older stuff than this would be a dissapointment. However, I like what I hear and I'm someone who isn't as familiar with the older stuff. So for someone like myself, can one say if I like this album that I would like the older stuff even more? :?

If you like epic black metal, yes. Think of this one but with longer songs, and a much more grandiose approach to the riffs and atmosphere.

Dark Medieval Times and Nemesis Divina are very different, so I can't tell. If you like early/mid 90's BM from Norway you'll love those two.

Rebel Extravaganza is quite different to Now, Diabolical, even considering it has a very modern approach as well. The songs are waaaaay more complex and agressive. An amazing album IMO, and I believe you'll like it a lot.

As for Volcano, you'll surely like it as it is in the same vein as Now, Diabolical.
