wot aboot Radiohead?

Well technically Radiohead's first huge comercial break came with OK computer which came in the late 90's as LIVE's success was pretty much throughout the 90's.

Oasis?? Blur?? Happy Mondays?? Green Day??? Ever heard of them?

Shit that reminds me I meant to include the Offspring. And then I meant to find a way of erasing Conspiracy of One and Splinter from my memory.

I recomended alchol and weed at the same time, i can't rmember anything after i've done that, which is proabably a good thing haha

In north america Blur is considered a one hit wonder with their song "Song 2" that came out in 1997, Oasis had 2 good albums in the mid 90s (Definately Maybe 1994, What's the Story Mourning Glory 1995) than disappeared and Green day had one succesful album (Dookie, 1994) basically dissapeared then reappeared in early 2000 with some succesful hits.

LIVE had much coverage throughout the 90s with the excellent throwing copper 1994, Secret Samadhi 1997 and The distance to here 1999. I mean these guys were HUGE , but they have been forgotten since 2000. from the bands you mentioned Blur was a bleep on the radar, OASIS was huge for 2-3 years, pretty much the same with Green Day which was everywere because of Dookie then it went down hill until Americain Idiot. Americain Idiot is their comeback to the top.

oh and when I say success it means commercial success, meaning they got lots of media coverage, they played in huge venues, their level of poularity was high and they were constantly on the radio, TV and media.

It's a shame that Blur are only known for Song 2 over there, because it's probably their very worst single.

Not to mention it was easily the worst song on that album.

Their (Oasis) Second album, What's The Story, (Morning Glory), from which several of the tracks here are drawn, remains the highest ever certified album at 14 x platinum whilst their combined album sales total close to, a remarkable 40 million sales worldwide. - Oasis Official website

Oasis - sold more than 50 million records worldwide (including singles) - Wikipedia

LIVE - Have sold 11 million world wide - Wikipidea

Is that comercial success enough for ya???

Oh and is this venue big enough for you to warrent them successfull?

As their career reached its zenith, Oasis performed back-to-back concerts at Knebworth on August 10 and 11, 1996. The band sold out both shows within minutes; 250,000 people over two nights, at the time a record-breaking number for an outdoor concert held in the UK. - Wikipedia

Oasis own LIVE on comercial success, just one of their albums has sold double everything LIVE has ever done put together. Your a fool if you think LIVE are only act in the 90's that had success without having to play "grunge".

You've obviously never heard 'Girls & Boys' or 'Crazy Beat'... compared to them 'Song 2' is pure classic.

First time I'm seeing these numbers, but I made that statement based on What I have seen in North America during the ninties.
Oasis once again, was never that huge overhere heck some people don't even know who they are....

I'll change my sentence around for you: LIVE are one of those rare acts from the 90's that had success without having to play "grunge"

Man, I need to update this list

My 15 fave bands as of now in no particular order

Tool
Sigh
Leviathan
Immortal
Emperor
A Perfect Circle
Slayer
(old) Metallica
Clutch
Strapping Young Lad
Burzum
Celtic Frost
Darkthrone
Black Sabbath
Megadeth

To be honest, it's tough to find 15 bands I actually listen too. I really need to expand my musical range.

You forgot to mention their HUGE mainstream comeback in 2004 with American Idiot. An album that's so overexposed now it's not even funny.
