My short list of singers that smoke or have smoked for a long time (stop keeping up with this about 5 years ago):

Jerry Cantrell (as seen on his website)
Layne Staley (presumably, I recall seeing photos of him with a cig in mouth)
Sully Erna
Kud (numerous appearances with winston lights)
Corey Taylor
Ozzy (quite sometimes in the early 90's)
Dio (as seen in the "beast of Dio" photos from the cd tray)
Phil Anselmo (more recently, though this probably dates back to '94)
Geddy Lee (until 1986, has relapsed many times, he has always french inhaled anyway)
Sebastian Bach (Marijuana, which is much worse for the pipes)
Alexi Laiho (lucky strike smoker)
Geoff Tate (Chain Smoker) This really says it all in my book
James Hetfield

Edit:

Rob Halford

More nonsensical drivel from a smoker. Completely false, of course.

Prove me wrong.

Try proving yourself right first.

Good lord. Would just one of you smokers say, "Hey, smoking is stupid and unhealthy for myself and those around me, but I do it anyway." It's as simple as that. All these fucking excuses are pathetic. They reek of shame.

Have some integrity, clown.

Why do I need to prove smoking is harmless? you can't prove such a theory. I can point you in the direction of dozens of scientific journals that show there is no evidence of second hand smoke being harmful, but that's about it.

Now that smoking is generally banned in businesses and restaurants, it's all a moot point anyway. It's the smokers choice, not yours.

So, because some of these people have kept their voices and others (in bold) are either fucked beyond repair, diminished in some way (by this I mean Anselmo) or were always shite in the first place (Laiho) means smoking is good for your singing voice?

And the guy you've been arguing should fucking retire in another forum is one of your examples. You're so full of shit.

I don't agree with your 5th point, about smoking helps you reduce weight. That doesn't happen to everyone. I don't think half the people who smoke have lost weight due to cigarettes. The people I've known all these years are either plump or fat smokers. And the skinny ones have been skinny all their lives. None of them have lost weight. The biggest example, is me. The reason I said 'biggest example' is because of myself. I never lost any weight in my 9 years of smoking. Well from the ages 16 to 19 I lost A LOT of weight and that is because I was a regular footballer. Then when I went to college at 20, till today (I'm 24 this year), I've only gained more and more weight. I played lesser football, drank more, and smoked a lot more. Back in my teens I used to smoke less than a pack a day. Having half a pack at the end of the day was something scary back then. Now I smoke nearly 2 packs a day, and there's no signs of any weight loss. At 19 I was 67kg, now I'm whopper at 85. So clearly, your point isn't actually accurate, plus I don't think it's proven at all.

The reason people put on weight when they quit smoking is because their mouths become 'itchy'. And chewing on something helps them forget the crave for the cancer stick.

No offense Jaden, but I sadly find your six points rather childish and immature. But hey, we all were fooled into smoking thanks to some shitty reasons as well. I won't deny that. I don't find smoking any cool at all but I smoke because I'm addicted to it, I won't deny that point. Tell me would you hit on a girl by flicking your pack, drawing a cigarette and puffing in her face?

The only point I agree with you is about cigarettes being meditative, but my agreement is only marginal. Yeah, at times when you're stressed up, a stick does help ease off the mounting pressure, but only a while. I used to that a lot, especially while studying, but I always had headaches after that, which makes matters worst. It's actually doing more harm than the pressure you're facing from the stress.

The ONLY point I agree with you fully is the combination of cigarettes and coffee. That shit kicks ass, big time.

Prices of cigarettes over here in Malaysia are just getting higher by the year. I've resorted to smoking cheaper cigarettes now, which is actually Grade B tobacco. They're cheaper than the Grade A tobacco cigarettes like Marlboro and Dunhill. Even so, the Grade B prices are getting pretty stiff and it's just a matter of time till I either quit smoking or kill myself.

Does the booklet actually say anything about losing weight if you smoke?

"Remember, that gaining weight after quitting smoking is normal.
Most people gain less than 10 pounds, and most of this is lost later.
However, studies show that people who make changes in their eating
and exercising habits do not gain much, if any, weight. If you do
gain weight, you are still far better off than if you were smoking."

I would think that has a lot to do with their eating habits after quitting. I've known a fair amount of people who quit smoking and most of them gained weight in large part due to the eating binges they went on around the same time. Quitting is stressful, and people tend to compensate for this by eating ALOT. To me, that booklet doesn't sell your point in any way.

Tell that to the babies that have severe asthma and respatory disease because their parents smoked around them as babies.

Can you show some evidence for your point? Link us to some scientific journals you keep trumping? World Health Organization says this:

Quote:
There is clear scientific evidence of an increased risk of lung cancer in non-smokers exposed to SHS. This increased risk is estimated at 20% in women and 30% in men who live with a smoker (2). Similarly, it has been shown that non-smokers exposed to SHS in the workplace have a 16 to 19% increased risk of developing lung cancer (3). The risk of presenting lung cancer increases with the degree of exposure. The Californian Environmental Protection Agency (Cal EPA) estimates that SHS causes 3000 deaths each year due to lung cancer in non-smokers.
