Bloody hell, you're all overreacting.
Of course there's a Donate button, else why would I be mentioning it?
http://www.metalreviews.com/donations.htm It's at the bottom right-hand of the homepage.
The GIF rule is about making the forum run smoothly for everyone. Since my work computer, which is reasonably fast and has broadband, nearly crashed after one page full of Hellwhore's posts (and that's no indication of the quality or lack thereof of his posts!) and so I doubt I'm the only one who has had problems. I never said GIFs were banned and ordered people to do anything, I explained the situation and asked people to remove them. There's a hell of a difference. Seriously, how long have I been a moderator here? And how many times have I acted like a dictator? Exactly; none.
People around here always have problems when moderators do anything that affects THEIR forum. Remember when swear words were changed? When the whole forum was more or less under crackdown? There is no way that any moderator currently moderising here is a harsh master, and making a big deal out of a request to remove some petty GIFs is ridiculous.
How am I controlling you by asking you to change your avatar? Jesus, Stefan, have a little mercy on us evil totalitarians!
It'll happen eventually, Jeff. If anyone actually bothers reading what people say around here then they'd know that that kind of thing costs money. We don't get money from running the site, in fact, it makes quite a dent in Chris' finances. Why do we continue to shell out? Because we care about the music. Now, is it really so harsh to ask why (I never actually demanded money, grandbazaar) there hasn't been a single donation in the history of the Donate button? Why is this a "dictatorship"? IT ISN'T. By leaving this thread open I'm allowing you people to fling all kinds of shit at me that would not be tolerated anywhere else. I give plenty of respect: by not having peoples' GIFs removed via the magic of the Admin system, but by requesting that they be removed, that's respect rite theya.

Since when is MetalReviews mission to collect cash from it's readers ? Since when has MR become a capitalist whore ? If you really want cash that bad maybe you should rethink the whole website and go for subscriptions instead...
But you know what ? By insulting me and other forum mates (with your cheapo implied remarks), you have just inspired me to never donate nor give a penny of my hard earned cash to MR .
Upgrades cost money, programmers cost money, servers cost money. There's never a nice way to ask for money, but why does having to pay these costs (no-one will ever be able to live from this place) mean that we're turning into capitalist whores? You're being ridiculous.
And come on, if you were going to donate anything you'd have done it by now. Don't act all insulted because I 'implied' that people are tight - what else am I supposed to think?
Ken, finally I understand.
Yes I admit, I overreacted. Not because of the no GIF policy because really, I couldn't care less because I don't use them.
It just the way things were handled. Look, Zad, your first comments critizize us for not donating, for not contributing, implying that we would be banned on other forums for giving our opinion (which I sort of relate to as a threat), simply because we mention the no GIF policy should have no exceptions. How is that having a problem with the moderater ? I mean do I have a track record for not complying to the moderaters demands ?
As for the money situation, in my previous argument I used strong words.... but I felt obliged as you made it quite clear you felt snubbed and pissed about having no donations in a context that it had nothing to do with in the first place. It's basically how you brought the subject and in the actual context that I didn't like. For the record, I didn't even know a donation button even existed for this website, so maybe it would be a great idea to rethink it's placement ! A quick poll will also possibly indicate that there is more people not knowing about this than you might think.
No hard feelings.
