Ok, finished dinner.

Seriously, go for Fantomas - Director's Cut: metal reworkings of things like the Rosemary's Baby theme tune and the Omen.

Also try Zombi - Spirit Animal; synth-prog inspired by 70s horror soundtrackers such as Goblin and Fabio Frizzi.

Morte Macabre do a similar synth-proggy thing, also reworking classic horror themes.

For extreme metal don't forget Mortician; a quality band (says I, at least). Most of their songs are 50% samples from horror films.

The one that comes to my mind first is The Vision Bleak. A bit crappy gothic band I posted here with horror lyrics.

Timeless Miracle maybe, but it's more of a fantasy atmosphere rather than horror. Still, I think it is what you are looking for.

I think Jacob's Dream Theater of War album is suitable but I'm not 100% sure.

Grave Digger perhaps.

Hope that helps.

The Paper Chase were the first band to come to mind. Their music is influenced by horror soundtracks, one of their albums is about ghosts, and they sample quotes from horror (and other) movies a lot.

Looking to compile a list of bands that have clear ties to the horror genre. Bands like White Zombie/Rob Zombie, Ghoultown, Nekromantix, Insane Clown Posse, etc. NOT looking for bands with names like Goatcuntfuck and Angel Cum that write about so-called "horrific" stuff.

I'm also interested in musicians that have branched out into the horror genre. Again, cats like Rob Zombie, Henry Rollins, Dee Snider, and so on.

Post 'em up! :dio:

Er, wait, so you want posey Nu-Metal stuff rather than bands that create an atmosphere of horror? Because if you want the latter, there are plenty of picks: The Axis Of Perdition, Portal, Aborted, Obituary, Autopsy, Cannibal Corpse, Coffins, Corpsing, Defeated Sanity, Demilich... there are loads. Atmosphere > image.

Fat white people singing about eating intestines and Satan is not what I want. There needs to be a tie-in with the horror genre, as in the literary horror genre, old movies and books and such.

Life of Agony musically has nothing to do with horror, but Wire Hangers, bassist Alan Robert's horror comic does. Henry Rollins and Dee Snider has no connection musically, however both have done horror movies. Dee did that Halloween instrumental disc, though. Rob Zombie, of course, has music, comics, and movie tie-ins.

Iced Earth have the Horror Show album. Force of Evil has their two albums which largely focus on horror movies/books. These are the sort of things we're looking for.

Way to objectify an entire genre there, bigot. Have you heard any of The Axis Of Perdition? Far from fat, far from Satan. Certainly more to do with horror (as in, music that horrifies) that Dee Snider, ffs.

Did you just call me a bigot because you can't comprehend English? Awesome. I was making a general clarification on what I'm looking for, not generalizing all those bands that you listed.

And considering that Dee Snider has written a horror movie and is doing a sequel to it now, I'd have to insist (because it's true) that he has far more to do with the kind of horror I'm speaking about here.

Gee fucking whiz. I listed bands that have elements of horror to their sound. And seriously, writing a horror film does not make one awesome. If that's what you're after, knock yourself out. Writing about how bands create a horrific atmosphere seems far more interesting, however.

I love The Misfits... Great music, and great songs with a horror theme.

Lordi, if you don't mind their goofy over the top sound. I love it.

Can't think of much else off the top of my head.

Danzig is writing a script to a horror movie, GeRouge.

First off, I never said writing a horror film makes anyone awesome. No need to make things up. That said, Zad, I am not looking for bands that have elements of horror in their sound. A gloomy atmosphere is great and all, but it's simply not what I'm looking for. Can you dig on that? If a band or musician is directly connected to the kind of stuff that horror fans dig, then I'm interested, but atmosphere doesn't cut it.

I can see you pouting from here. Now cut the shit.

Fine, just doesn't seem logical to me. Lordi, in that case?

Why doesn't it seem logical? I just spent nearly two years producing a magazine that is geared toward fans of horror fiction. We are not a music magazine. Some readers may like atmospheric bands, but reading about that kind of band is not why they pick up and read horror publications.

It is quite logical, I assure you.

For me personally, knowing that band 'A' create an extremely horrific atmosphere with their music is more interesting than knowing that band 'B' rip off Stephen King in the lyrics. If you were recommending films to them, you'd recommend, well, scary films, not films that had a guy working on them who's into Lovecraft. That was my line of thought, anyhow. If I was interested in horror fiction, and read a list of bands that included Insane Clown Posse, I would chuckle elitist-ly to myself and read on. If I read an article that was, like, 'rad creepy music to listen to whilst reading horror fiction', I'd be interested and read further. Geddit?

Heck, I'm a consumer! Chances are I'll shell out something ridiculous to get a copy sent over out of curiosity. Be warned, if I see any articles recommending me to check Insane Clown Posse out, then your letters page will get some hot complaining action.

Isn't there that doom band that writes albums based on H.P. Lovecraft?

Catacombs.

That count? Can't think of others.

Diabolical Masquerade and The Vision Bleak don't seem to have been mentioned.

The Vision Bleak fucking love Lovecraft.
