so besides turn-over machine Hossa, Staal has a better +\- then everybody else you mentioned. But wait plus/minus is not everything, what about Staals 50+ points getting 3rd line minutes. Or maybe that cup ring he's got over Bergeron, Richards, and Hossa. Or maybe it's his 358 consecutive games he's played. No you're right he is overrated and doesn't deserve the nomination.
Find me a player with better plus/minus, more points, in the same amount of average ice-time. Oh wait, I bet you can't becuase there isn't any.
Finding someone with a better plus/minus, more points and a similar ice time (within one minute) was quite easy.
Staal--21 G 28 A 49 P, +19 and 19:23 TOI a game this year:
Semin--40 G 44 A 84 P, +36 and 19:07 TOI
Hossa--24 G 27 A 51 P, +24 and 18:42 TOI
Parise--38 G 44 A 82 P, +24 and 19:45 TOI
D. Sedin--29 G 56 A 85 P, +36 and 19:07 TOI
H. Sedin--29 G 83 A 112 P, +35 and 19:40 TOI
Toews--25 G 43 A 68 P, +22 and 20:00 TOI
Zajac--25 G 42 A 67 P, +22 and 20:12 TOI
Wolski--23 G 42 A, +21 and 18:43 TOI
(Plus guys like Sharp, Knuble, and Burrows who played much
less than Staal)
Obviously, stats don't give the whole picture, so that is why I posted
the discussion on the Selke nominees.
According to the consensus of hockey fans at the most popular hockey forum in the world, my opinion made sense (of course yours
had advocates too). I doubt you will budge at all in this debate, but I will anyway: Staal, despite being offensively overrated, is a fine pick
for the Selke. I just thought the guys I listed were better selections.
well I don't know about you, but I'd take J.Staal over Semin, Hossa, Burrows, and most of the other guys you posted. Staal has a cup ring, is what 22? And is already being nominated for selke trophies. I'm alps not bias towards Pittsburgh, I fuckin hate the Penguins. But I feel that J.Staal deserves his nominee. Will he win? I doubt it. But he is deserving nonetheless. And his loss will hurt the Penguins.
imagine if the Canucks lost Kesler for the remainder of the playoffs, that's what losing Staal is like.
