Oh. Interesting. Yeah, I agree with Steve, Al, but I don't feel the need to spread the malice.

Ain't spreading any malice. I like most albums that Chris overscore, but this is really boring.

60 is my score.

Not sure why this is a 94, but then again, I no longer harbor any love for this style of heavy metal. It is just far too flowery and happy sounding. But hey, to each his own. In the past I would have slagged this as the gayest shit ever, but megh, it's not worth the effort.

Guess this post is pointless as I'm sure no one cares that I don't like this.

I know, I will use this post to tell everyone how awesome the band Eleazar de Worms is, a little known band from Valencia, Spain that released one self-titled, self-released album in the mid-80's. Tis excellent.

I'll check it out. I've always been a fan... they've always been good running music.

Listening right know, very nwobhm-influenced. Not sure if I like the vocalist...

He certainly lacks a little bit of control, but I like the tone of his voice and the melodies he sings, particularly in the title track and the song Belphegor.

Then I'm stupid or silly, is that your point ? Maybe it takes a little time to get into it (the album does seem to grow upon repetitive spins as mentioned), but I can tell you as a fan of the first albums, this album is a comeback AFAIK that is. Sure it's no Eternity, but it's a great album nonetheless. I'm glad most fans agree (as sales are showing best numbers since Eternity, which kinda is the point I was trying to make). Like it or not I couldn't give a rat's ass really, I just tell you what the album did for me. That's what a review is actually, I wish people would understand that already.

As for the lyrics, since I don't give a damn about them, never had, never will, they account to maybe 5 points in case where I actually care, which 99.9% of the time I simply don't. I just liked the fact that it talked about video games this time around.

Anyway, to each his own, for me Rockin' Radio is actually a highlight, to you it's silly. Thank god and the force that we actually don't tick the same to every single thing, it would be such a fuckingly boring world if we were to all like omne color, one album, one everything.

Just my 2 cents
Chris

My point wasn't that you were stupid or silly, just that this album isn't as good as you are making it out to be. You have to separate the critique of the review from the critique of you as a person... you can call someone's review silly without thinking that person is stupid, after all! No one said you weren't allowed to rate this album whatever you thought it should be rated, but likewise, I think I should be allowed to express my opinion on it as well. I do think you overscore albums all the time, and I think it's something you should work on, so I'm going to tell you my opinion. I assume that this is one of the purposes of the forum - review feedback - and I'm not just supposed to post on threads to say, "I love this album as well!" That would be really boring, no?

A lot of people in the metal community seem to care very little about lyrics; this always strikes me as bizarre, but I sort of understand it. I suppose that I love good lyrics, and bad lyrics don't ruin a song for me unless I think they're super dumb, which I feel like a lot of the lyrics on this album are, "Rockin' Radio" being a prime example.

He gets really defensive with his reviews even though we are just voicing our view on the album. And he DOES overscore albums and acts like every record is the second coming of Christ.

I LOVE Back Into the Land of Light, it's so fucking cheesy and awesome. None of the rest stand out that much. The songs about World of Warcraft and Rocking Radio "we don't play rap and hiphop" are really, really shitty because of the terrible lyrics, I just can't stand listening to that shit.

Like I said don't care about the lyrics myself... so I love the songs. There is many awesome song on that album, plus they grow over time. I've started listening to Eternity since reviewing this album, so if anything I'm glad this album gave me back some Freedom Call fever. I just wish I could have seen them live this time around but there will be other opportunities :).

Anyway, I take it then you don't like FlashBack Radio from Axxis either ? or are the lyrics better on that song ?

Chris

I don't care that much about lyrics unless they're sung repeatedly in an anthemic way, like the "we don't play rap" thing. Shit like that seems to be aimed at teenagers who think it's cool to hate on other types of music. Same thing with the WoW stuff, I feel like they wrote that stuff just to make kids happy.

Agreed on overquoting, not always in my opinion but I originally wanted to give this 90 which probably was a better score to begin with. I also think we need to remove the Album of the Month is 90 or more as it pushes towards overquoting. I think some albums starting from 80 can carry that distinction. Yes constructing critiques are fine as well and I take note of yours. Thanks

Now let's make one thing clear, I'm passionate about what I love, that's not about second coming of Christ, I'm just passionate, you are however welcome to avoid my reviews, I won't lose any sleep over it. You have to understand I haven't reviewed for a long time, and being in a position to review again I had QUITE some backlog of awesome albums (IMHO) to review, this one happens to be a new release but I've mostly reviewed things I like the most, so of course we mostly saw high scores from me, lately. Also given the choice I'd rather review something I like than the opposite. I've reviewed my fair share of stink bombs earlier when my brother and I created this site, now I feel more like concentrating on stuff I'm passionate about. So you can either take my reviews with a grain of salt, ignore them if you wish, and those who know me from day 1 will know if my taste matches theirs.

Checking this right now, and sorry but I just can't help laughing out loud. I mean my ribs are actually hurting, at the moment.

I feel the urge to make a "crappy lyrics" quiz in the Power subforum (good idea, actually...)

edit: and I'm not even saying the album is bad, but seriously these guys are the cheese overlords. My cholesterol level is skyrocketing, jesus.

This is absolutely not Power Metal, in no way. The first track (Age of the Phoenix) does in no way follow what you what expect from a Power Metal track. It is truly a little bit sad that anything that doesn't fit the "model" has to go in the Power Metal bin. Power Metal is pretty conservative. Not backtempos like black/death.

Compare this to a true gem in Power Metal history - Kamelot, The Black Halo. That is Power Metal at almost its finest.

Heroes on Video is just a prank.

Rockin' Radio is a joke - are we talking about the same record?

Shit to go to the bin. Flush and forget. A band without integrity and does not know where to go.

To label this as Power Metal is an insult.

He's kind of right though. There isn't a lot of power metal on this one, and considering it contains 2 of the worst songs I have ever heard, the fact that it got a 94/100 is shocking.

What was it exactly then? Alt rock/metal? I remembered listening to one track when we were originally discussing it, and not being impressed.
