Hadn't heard these guys before this album. Not completely horrible, but not good either. Maybe about a 70? Rockin' Radio is unbelievably stupid. Giving this a 94 seems absolutely silly to me...
Then I'm stupid or silly, is that your point ? Maybe it takes a little time to get into it (the album does seem to grow upon repetitive spins as mentioned), but I can tell you as a fan of the first albums, this album is a comeback AFAIK that is. Sure it's no Eternity, but it's a great album nonetheless. I'm glad most fans agree (as sales are showing best numbers since Eternity, which kinda is the point I was trying to make). Like it or not I couldn't give a rat's ass really, I just tell you what the album did for me. That's what a review is actually, I wish people would understand that already.
As for the lyrics, since I don't give a damn about them, never had, never will, they account to maybe 5 points in case where I actually care, which 99.9% of the time I simply don't. I just liked the fact that it talked about video games this time around.
Anyway, to each his own, for me Rockin' Radio is actually a highlight, to you it's silly. Thank god and the force that we actually don't tick the same to every single thing, it would be such a fuckingly boring world if we were to all like omne color, one album, one everything.
Just my 2 cents
Chris
My point wasn't that you were stupid or silly, just that this album isn't as good as you are making it out to be. You have to separate the critique of the review from the critique of you as a person... you can call someone's review silly without thinking that person is stupid, after all! No one said you weren't allowed to rate this album whatever you thought it should be rated, but likewise, I think I should be allowed to express my opinion on it as well. I do think you overscore albums all the time, and I think it's something you should work on, so I'm going to tell you my opinion. I assume that this is one of the purposes of the forum - review feedback - and I'm not just supposed to post on threads to say, "I love this album as well!" That would be really boring, no?
A lot of people in the metal community seem to care very little about lyrics; this always strikes me as bizarre, but I sort of understand it. I suppose that I love good lyrics, and bad lyrics don't ruin a song for me unless I think they're super dumb, which I feel like a lot of the lyrics on this album are, "Rockin' Radio" being a prime example.
