PC: Morrowind, which was on for $4.99 used and it came with the poster map and some construction disc, not bad for 5 bucks. I originally played this game for Xbox and thought it was boring as all hell, I didnt understand its praise, and now that I own it, I still dont, but it was worth $4.99 at least.

Morrowind is hands down, the most deep, open-ended RPG you have ever played, unless you've played its two prequels Daggerfall and Arena. I've heard several people claim they can't get into it, but never gave it the time it deserves.

Then again, most people can't allow themselves to devote 300+ hours to a game :D

Deep? Yes, Open-ended? Yep, Fun? Nope (or at least not yet).. Sorry, but to me it really isnt anything special and the battle system is extremely frustrating so far. I will admit, I like it now for PC more than I did when I played it for Xbox when it first came out and stealing stuff can be quite fun in the game.

I am willing to give this game the time it needs, I've played it about 7 hours or so and I know thats not to long for a game like this, but like I said, I will give it time.

Does the game even have a point? After I delivered that package to buddy guy at the start it didnt advance the story at all and Ive just been wandering around... And if you tell me that thats the point and what I have to do, then I will dislike this game quite abit.

Hmm, how should I put this... It's the adventure itself, the point is what you make of it, want to be the knight in the shining armor? Go for it. Or the badass feared throughout the continent? You've got it too. It's what you make of it which counts, imagination is a very big part of the experience and if you're taking a critical stance from the beginning you may never really get into this game. For me it is a true "Role" playing game, the way they're meant to be. Free and open ended, you never HAVE to do anything unless you want to. If they tell you to kill an evil wizard you may just go eating mushrooms instead and think "fuck them" :).
Some people like different things in a game but for me this works, if this makes you more interested then it's a good thing, if not... I can't help it.

I know, Its mostly the battle system that ticks me off, I know I just started and I need to level up more for my fighting to be more effective, but considering I can swing my sword 26 fucking times at a worm and miss EVERY single time is just ridiculous. No wonder I turned away from this game a long time ago. The other thing that bothers me is the speed, even while running Im still moving slow. And I understand I need to level everything up in order to kick some ass, its just annoying that the game makes it very hard to even want to bother (IMO).

I do enjoy this game more than I used to and my character is finally able to at least hit an enemy once every 5-16 swings, I enjoy theiving from a town and then selling it to make lots of money, and I enjoy the epic feel of the landscape and as well how I feel when I discover something new (like the wrecked ship I found with some booty in it). Its a good game, but has some serious flaws.

Also, Im a plot whore, so it will take some getting used to not having places to be.

Yeah it's hard at first as you said when it takes about twenty blows to even hit an opponent, but it's one of those games where you first get your ass kicked and then after a few levels you'll be mopping the floor with most enemies. I'm currently playing a thief character on level 30 something and I've already needed to put the difficulty up a few times to make it challenging. Get a few mods if you haven't already, currently I'm using only those that enhance graphics but there's a shitload more of them.

Morrowind is simply huge! But I prefer Gothic as far as open ended rpgs go because it's more focused. Or at least used to prefer because for the past 3 months the only game I've been playing is world of warcraft! If anyone plays on the Bloodhoof EU server look for Asgardlord (lvl 58 hunter) I'll buy you a drink in Ironforge :D

Gothic is great too, though at least here overlooked by many. The world has more life in it, you know, animals eating each other in the wild and people making food in the towns. But it's still linear and would need more things to do (and a little less annoying battle system).
At first I was planning to maybe start WoW as well but then I heard about Lord Of The Rings Online being made and realeased sometime during next year. Damn them if they screw it up though...

You mean this http://lotro.turbine.com/ ? I think it at least looks interesting.

It was going to be interesting, but its probably going to blow simply due to the fact that Turbine is making it. Everything they touch has the potential to be gold, and turns out to be shit.

Strange. I never had the "not being able to land a hit" problem, and I've beaten the game a couple times over, plus the two expansions. If you were expecting another run-in-the-mill, everything-is-handed/explained-to-you game, then I can understand your disapointment.

As far as the flaws you find in the game, I think you'll come to find that they are also flaws in real life. Like for instance, trying to run 20 mph with 100 lbs worth of gear and items. Despite the fact that it is, indeed, a video game, Bethesda has always and hopefully will continue to provide the player with these realistic burdens. Besides, if you believe you're slow, take some time to sprint around the landscape. Find out how to make potions to increase your speed. Hell, they are even a few items in the game you can find to dramatically increase your speed. Anything you can think of as far as character progression is there... but its just like real life. It's going to take a lot of time and effort to get yourself there.

There is more plot in Morrowind than you can even begin to imagine. Just beating the first main quest in Morrowind requires an average of 80 hours! That's not including the fact that at any moment in the game you can just veer off the path and go exploring for hours and hours. I think you're dead wrong when you say Morrowind doesn't have enough plot. Just the lore in books you find is more plot than almost any other game out there.

I do not play games for realism. So whether they are flaws as well in real life means nothing, the fact is, I want to have fun while playing a game, whether Im being spooned the story (Metal Gear) or whether I'm just wandering around wondering WTF?? (Morrowind) I dont care, every game has potential to interest me and be fun, Morrowind however, after 15+ hours has provided some fun, not much. I know this game needs 159.6 million uber hours to appreciate but I just dont have that time to spend on games unless I know I will have a good time. So far Morrowind has provided enough fun that Im not ready to let it go yet. Like I said, good game, with some flaws. Can you ride horses in the game? If so thatd be good, a quick way to get around if not, why even bother trying to be realistic.

Anyways, Im tired of talking about this game, its like FFVII, decent, but no wheres near the praise it deserves... To each their own I guess, maybe I'll play some more Gothic II if I can find that, I found that tons more enjoyable than Morrowind.

I hear much about this Gothic. Please tell me no more until I find it necessary to spend even more money on video games :D

Besides, I just got Quake 4 working properly, so to be honest I've really got my plate full. Quake 4, with Dragonforce as the soundtrack... mindblowing.

Gothic is an adventure game. More action than role-playing. There are a few different paths you can take when playing it, take G2 for example. A paladin, a mercenary, or a magician. As I said before the battle system could feel a bit more flexible, the characters are pretty "stiff".
What makes this game good is the world they have managed to create. There are people doing their everyday stuff and animals doing... well, animal stuff. You can go almost everywhere from the beginning but the stronger animals will most likely hand your ass to you in little pieces. It takes a lot of levels and a lot of armor before you can engage you first wolf pack for example since the AI will try to get behind your back when you're fighting someone else.
If someone was to merge the world and action of Gothic and the huge diversity of Morrowind, there would be no need for any other RPG's if I dare to say.
I just had to tell a bit :)... So how is Q4 by the way?

Gothic is like a mmorpg in single player. That's the best description I can give, PhyrWolf described it very nicely.

I'd love to play Quake 4, but alas I'm leaving for army duty next week :( Either way, I'll still need a new gpu, because I don't think my criminally overclocked Radeon 9500 can take it anymore :D

bought it yesterday... i gave 17 $ in a danish shop... 17 $ is very cheap for a game in Denmark.. dunno if you can get it cheaper outside, but my guess is yes!

a new game in denmark cost anywhere from 67$ to 92$ (ps2 cost 83 most of the time, while a PC 67$) :x fucking retarded... and when we had the N64 a game could cost up to 134 $... wiii.. .a good way to get rid of all your money fast :D
