I like this album, but the vocals can be annoying at times. Too much banshee screaming. On "Into the Mirror Black", he improved his vocals using the full range of his voice and succeeded!

I actually liked this better than Into The Mirror Black. Low 80's for me. There's only about one song on here that I feel is filler, the rest are very good with some being excellent such as Battle Angel, which fucking kills.

Now that I finally got this and ITMB on CD I can give you my opinion.

Well first off I bought this album when it came out back in 1988 on tape and I didn't like it at all but of course back then I listened to Poison so go figure.I thought the vocals was weird(it was my first taste of falsetto vocals)but of course I wasn't even into Judas Priest at the time so I wasn't prepared.I tossed this tape into a box never to be listen to again until I got into Nevermore.Knowing that Warrel was with Sanctuary I decided to go back and relisten to the album and well I got hooked.I can't believe I never got into this album the first time around but my tastes have changed since so I'm kicking myself in the rear.I've been meaning to get this and Into The Mirror Black on CD and now that I have them I can now jam my CD player on full volume while I work out(great workout album lol).

Some may not like this since there is a lot of Halford like falsetto vocals but I like those type of vocals(and I'm studying to sing like that)and since I like Judas Priest I don't mind them at all.

Of course this album will scream Painkiller clone but that's ok since Painkiller was JP's greatest CD.Battle Angels opens up the album with fury of a raging storm rampaging through your speakers in full force.

The rest of the CD kicks as from Termination Force to the closer Veil Of Disguise each song will kick your ass to the ground so those who like Judas Priest and earlier power metal will like this CD.

By the way don't compare Nevermore with this CD since both bands are like night and day.Enjoy this CD because this would be the only time you'll ever hear Warrel Dane wail like Rob Halford on speed.

Except that Painkiller came two years later than Refuge Denied!

That's true.
I actually got into Sanctuary and Nevermore at the same time (that was when Nevermore's newest album was Politics Of Ecstasy) and I was very disappointed to find out that Warrel didn't use his AMAZING higher register almost at all anymore  ->

only a 78? ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? how in the hell does this album score that low? Battle Angels, Termination Force, Die For My Sins, Soldiers Of Steel, Sanctuary, White Rabbit, Ascension To Destiny, in fact the only song on this entire album I feel is filler was mentioned as a killing song in Veil Of Disguise, this album is EASILY an 85 at least

if someone gets the chance they really should review the Inception demos, its basically a long lost version of Refuge denied with two new tracks (Dream of the Incubus/Death rider) and its heavier, much more influenced by Judas Priest/King Diamond, and Warrel's vocals are much rawer. Refuge denied is good but the original version blows it away
