Normally I take pride in being completely anti-melodeth (with very few exceptions), but I just heard a song called 'ThereIn', and it was awesome. A bit of digging with archives revealed it to be from an album called 'Projector', apparently quite experimental. Is the rest of the album this good, or is it like normal melodeth, ie painfully average?
Don't listen to them! Projector is an awesome album through and through. It's very different, lots of clean vocals and even female vocals, too. It's a great, great album! Something I wish Dark Tranquillity would incorporate more into their music. I give them credit for going heavy again on the three following albums, but at this point they're starting to tread familiar water. They need to change it up again on the next one.
Honestly, I don't think Dark Tranquillity has a bad album in their catalog! The earlier stuff is more death metal, then they got more thrashy, then experimental with Projector, then they went heavier, but groovier, less thrashy. A great band in my books, easily my favorite melodic death metal band by a mile.
Definitely check out Projector, though. It's a tough album to swallow for DT fans, so asking for an accurate opinion is going to get varying responses. The best thing to do is buy it or download it. I highly recommend it!
