Kind of nu-metalish is irrelevant. Apparently, according to some here, Pantera's Vulgar Display of Power, Machine Head's Burn My Eyes and Sepultura's Chaos A.D. are kind of nu-metalish. "Kind of" anything doesn't make it something.

They are, and thats why I don't like any of those bands.

In my humble opinion (I'll probably be impaled on a skewer of metalhead vitriol, if that's the right word, so here goes...) I thought Hypnotize was easily the best mainstream metal album of 2005, and proved music doesn't have to be formulaic and dull to sell shitloads. I am new.

I don't think that vitriol is something that takes solid form, so no go there. Don't think I can skewer you on that sorta thang. Mind being skewered on a frozen stake made out of bile instead?

Hypnotize was lousy. Even the critics who love SoaD agreed with that. Too much filler and not enough awesome songs.

What critics? 99% of the reviews I read gave it excellent reviews.

Well, most of the complaints I have read have simply been on "Stealing Society," "She's Like Heroin" and, for some odd reason, "Lonely Day," which—aside from it's blatant disregard of proper grammar and poetic lyricism—is a great tune. But the the former two I mentioned they're just very different from anything SOAD has done and I think that throws people off. I'm not a big fan of "She's Like Heroin," I probably like this song least out of all their songs next to ".36," which is terrible. I really like "Stealing Society," but I can see where people would not like the Daron-controlled, 80's pop-punk breakdown/ending.

Overall, though, I still think reviews have been much more favorable than not.

...you know what? I'm going to go give System another fair shot and see what happens. There're a bunch of videos on their website I can stream.

It's wrong to bash a band that you haven't heard the music of in nearly six months.

EDIT - And back, that was easy. My opinion of Serj's singing has risen, and my opinion of Daron's strangled-cat screaming has fallen. Other than that, unchanged. On with the show.

I've read a lot of dismissive reviews from smaller publications. Larger publications seem to like it, like Rolling Stone, but Rolling Stone likes everything.

Some of the songs on the first one sounded a little too poppy to me. The second one keeps the madness flowing, and SOAD are at their best then.
