All I said about SOAD was actually mostly factual. And if they aren't Nu-Metal what are they? Just pointing out the obvious, ADD metal, Nu-Metal, same shit, different name.

That being said, I'm off. Sorry for not liking the mainstream "metal" that everyone is so proud of but I'd rather buy a Kreator CD than waste my money on this.

Well, whatever.

Are you saying you don't like Kreator?
he said Kreator > SOAD

I kind of heard it as "I'd rather by Kreator (which is bad) than waste my time on SOAD (which is a crappier band than Kreator)."

I don't know if Dave Mustaine took mushrooms but at least he wrote great music. By the way, eyesore, trying to insult me because I don't like this shitty album doesn't really profess of your "superior" intellect. Nevertheless, I didn't write that comment for people like you to wine and piss over it because I don't like the oh almighty system of a down, I wrote it simply to say what I thought about the new SOAD album, but... I guess that makes me a total moron devoid of any intelligence. I'm so sad :( . You make such a good admin.

Oh come on Eyesore....they are kind of Nu-metallish.

Kind of nu-metalish is irrelevant. Apparently, according to some here, Pantera's Vulgar Display of Power, Machine Head's Burn My Eyes and Sepultura's Chaos A.D. are kind of nu-metalish. "Kind of" anything doesn't make it something.

They are, and thats why I don't like any of those bands.

Right, except that Kreator kicks ass.

In my humble opinion (I'll probably be impaled on a skewer of metalhead vitriol, if that's the right word, so here goes...) I thought Hypnotize was easily the best mainstream metal album of 2005, and proved music doesn't have to be formulaic and dull to sell shitloads. I am new.

And you are quite correct.

The album, and you're new, so that, too.

I don't think that vitriol is something that takes solid form, so no go there. Don't think I can skewer you on that sorta thang. Mind being skewered on a frozen stake made out of bile instead?

Hypnotize was lousy. Even the critics who love SoaD agreed with that. Too much filler and not enough awesome songs.

What critics? 99% of the reviews I read gave it excellent reviews.

Popmatters, Alternative Press, Uncut, Stylus Magazine...

There are more, that's off the top of me head.

Well, most of the complaints I have read have simply been on "Stealing Society," "She's Like Heroin" and, for some odd reason, "Lonely Day," which—aside from it's blatant disregard of proper grammar and poetic lyricism—is a great tune. But the the former two I mentioned they're just very different from anything SOAD has done and I think that throws people off. I'm not a big fan of "She's Like Heroin," I probably like this song least out of all their songs next to ".36," which is terrible. I really like "Stealing Society," but I can see where people would not like the Daron-controlled, 80's pop-punk breakdown/ending.

Overall, though, I still think reviews have been much more favorable than not.

...you know what? I'm going to go give System another fair shot and see what happens. There're a bunch of videos on their website I can stream.

It's wrong to bash a band that you haven't heard the music of in nearly six months.

EDIT - And back, that was easy. My opinion of Serj's singing has risen, and my opinion of Daron's strangled-cat screaming has fallen. Other than that, unchanged. On with the show.

I've read a lot of dismissive reviews from smaller publications. Larger publications seem to like it, like Rolling Stone, but Rolling Stone likes everything.

I think they're both fairly even, I can't really pick one over the other.

Some of the songs on the first one sounded a little too poppy to me. The second one keeps the madness flowing, and SOAD are at their best then.

Hmmm...weird. I would say that Hypnotize is poppier! Hahaha.

Really? Lost In Hollywood, BYOB, Radio/Video are on the first one, and the second one has the Vicinity Of Obscenity one.

I was under the impression that both Mesmerize and Hypnotize were 100% composed of pop songs.. 8)

Stealing Society, Lonely Day, She's Like Heroin, and Kill Rock N Roll are all very poppy if you ask me.
